In the late 19th century, a Japanese team embarked on an excursion to India, risking their lives to gather tea seeds suitable for black tea. Once in Japan, crossbred with local plants the offspring found a home in Mariko, the cradle of Japanese black tea. The legacy still lives on and, as this second flush so elegantly demonstrates, we can to this day still enjoy the delightful mix of Japanese gentleness and black tea pungency.
